Kid Fit
Kid Fit will be beginning in February. Kid Fit is an afterschool program that takes place in community centres from bus drop-off to 5:00 p.m.  Registered children with a bus note are able to get off the bus at their local community centre to participate in the program. The program is offered to children in grades primary to grade 6 and is physical activity based and will have kids moving. Kid Fit will take place in Port Bickerton and Ecum Secum on Monday’s starting February 3rd and Tuesday’s in Sherbrooke starting February 4th. Each Tuesday and Thursday in March, the St. Mary’s Fitness Centre invites Moms and Dads to our Fitness Centre Supper Club. We are putting the focus on the whole family, by providing access to our Fitness Centre, a childcare program during the hour self-led workout, and a light dinner afterward. From 4pm to 5:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, not only is your workout free, school age kids will join our rec staff in the SMECA little gym for fun and games, and pre-school aged kids will be in the Kids First Room right next door to the gym. No need to hire a babysitter! A light dinner and snacks will be provided at 5:30 pm, after your workout. ARK Workshop

Our female youth focused group for ages 12-17, will meet again Wednesday March 4th and Wednesday March 25th. We will be mixing Art and Walking to increase our creativity and improve our physical wellbeing. Some of our creative activities will be a remakery workshop: where we find new ways to use things through redesign, and personalizing journals with collage techniques. Events will be after school until 5pm in the SHOPS room at SMECA.  On March Break, we have a special event taking place in Halifax that you do not want to miss!  On March 19th we will head to Halifax to experience a walking tour of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Pier 21, and so much more.  ARK and our activities are supported by the Dept. of Communities Culture and Heritage, and our group is grateful to the Ruth Goldbloom Educational Bursary program for their support of our March Break event.

After School Rec Hockey

After School Recreation Hockey   
After School Recreation Hockey continues to take place Wednesdays from 3-4pm at the St. Mary’s Recplex for all school aged children. This is an opportunity for kids to enjoy the sport of hockey no matter what their skill level is. Participants will take part in basic shooting, passing and skating drills along with unstructured play. Recreation Staff will walk registered participants in this program from school to the Recplex leaving the school at 2:40. Note: Children must wear full hockey gear to participate. All students participating in this program must have a registration form completed.

This program is FREE (thanks to the community). The program runs every Friday from 6-7pm and you can still sign up for the program by showing up on Friday nights before 6pm and filling out a registration form. Learn to Skate is for youth ages 3-6 who are in the early stages of learning the skate. Children only require skates and a hockey helmet. Learn to Play Hockey is for youth ages 5+ who are in the early stages of learning to play hockey. Hockey equipment is recommended.

Saturday, March 7th 2019 - The Amazing Mr. J’s Magic show is kicking off our Winter Fun Fest 2020, and you do not want to miss this show!  Join us at the Exhibit Centre in Sherbrooke Village from 11-12pm to watch Mr. J perform. Bring your hats, mitts and sleds along for our sledding party! Our Skating Party takes place right after the magic show at the Recplex from 12-2pm. The Recplex is getting the party treatment, with some funky lighting and cool tunes to skate to. From there we head to Church Hill in Sherbrooke village for sledding from 2-4pm, right next to the Exhibit Centre. You will be able to warm your hands at our fire pit and purchase Hot Chocolate and S’mores in support of a great cause. We will wrap up our Winter Fun Fest 2020 with a showing of FROZEN 2 at the Exhibit Centre in Sherbrooke Village. Doors open at 5:00pm, movie starts at 6:00pm. Feel free to bring a blanket, pillow and stuffy to snuggle up and watch the movie with.  Popcorn will be available for purchase as well.  All events are FREE. Snacks will be available to purchase from the St. Mary’s House League Hockey Team.  Come  and join us for a memorable day of family fun to celebrate winter 2020!

Free skates are back at the St. Mary’s Recplex!

Skates will take place each Wednesdays 6:00-7:00pm and Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00pm. Skates are free for all, all season long.

There are limited amount of helmets and skates available for use free of charge. All skaters must wear helmets on the ice, no exceptions. Free Skates are made possible through financial support from the Province of Nova Scotia Facility Access Grant.

The newly established fire auxiliary is looking for new members to join our committee. The auxiliary is working towards completion of the play space project (including half pipe) but is also interested in maintaining and improving the ball field and supporting the fire department. If you are interested in learning more, please come out to our next meeting on January 14th. The auxiliary meets on the second Tuesday of each month.
