Special Weather Statement - Environment Canada
The Municipality of the District of St. Mary’s would like to share Environment Canada’s Special Weather Statement for Saturday (September 7) and share some tips on how to stay safe with the upcoming weather alerts.
Tips to stay safe during heavy rainfall:
- Stay Informed of current situations, updates, alerts, etc.
- Avoid flooded areas and water ways
- Prepare your home with extra water, fuel, clear gutters/drains, seal/cover windows etc.
- Prepare an Emergency Kit with essentials, and important documents
- Travel Safely (avoid being on the road if possible, drive slowly when heavy rainfall is occurring)
- Be cautious around electricity (avoid down power lines, tun off electricity in flood prone areas)
- Stay Clear of Bodies of Water (avoid rivers, streams, coastal areas, and bridges)

Significant rain is expected.
Total rainfall: 30 to 50 mm. Locally higher amounts are possible.
Locations: central and eastern Nova Scotia.
Time span: Saturday morning through into Saturday night.

- delays and cancellations of ferry services
- scattered utility outages
Remarks: An area of low pressure containing tropical moisture may bring significant rainfall to the province this weekend. There is still some uncertainty as to where the heaviest rain will occur in these areas.
In addition to the rain, gusty winds Saturday could lead to scattered utility outages.
