Exciting Update: over 130 votes have been made so far in the Small Business Awards/ Voting THANK YOU! The new St. Mary’s Small Business Award voting is underway, and both the response and feedback have been incredible! These community driven awards are a great way to showcase the entrepreneurial spirit in St. Mary’s and increase community awareness for local products, services, and resources. So far over 130 votes have been made for local businesses! The focus of the awards are on the businesses that have been created/founded and operate in St. Mary’s. New this year is the listing of businesses in the awards categories to increase inclusivity and awareness for who the businesses are in St. Mary’s and how long they have been here (based on date of incorporation with Nova Scotia Registry of Joint Stocks). St. Mary’s is committed to continually improving business events and awards to connect and showcase the economic successes of the community. These awards help to promote a thriving economy and promote the development of new businesses in the community. By recognizing the hard work and dedication of local entrepreneurs, the community can come together to support and celebrate the success of small businesses in St. Mary’s. The four categories for the annual awards are: Best New Business (established in the last 5 years and show significant promise through their growth and successful business strategy) Best Customer Service (dedicated to continuously improving customer satisfaction, exceeding expectations, and reacting appropriately to ensure customer satisfaction. They also demonstrate excellence in resolving conflicts and/or when facing challenges) Best Community Impact (making a difference to their community, has taken positive action to invest in their community and sees social responsibility as integral to the business' success) Best Long-Standing Business (operating for over 10 consecutive years exemplifying growth and sustainability) Your name and contact information are used solely for the purpose of confirming your vote and not retained after the voting closes and winner of random draw announced.

Due to impending weather conditions, all programs scheduled for tomorrow, February 3rd, will be cancelled. This includes the Learn to Skate program, House League Hockey, and the Free Skate. This session of Learn to Skate will be made up at a later date, to be determined.

Ice hockey/skating sledges are now available to use, free of charge, at the St. Mary's RecPlex. 2 sledges are available, one child medium/adult small and one adult medium. Sledges include push handle for guardians to assist with use, or adaptive hockey sticks for self-propelled use. Sledges have telescopic noses to adjust for leg length. Ask RecPlex staff about usage. The purchase of this adaptive equipment was made possible by Recreation Nova Scotia through their equipment loan grant.
