The Municipality of the District of St. Mary’s hosted its annual Business Appreciation Dinner and Awards at the Sherbrooke Lion’s Club Hall on Thursday October 2nd, 2025.

The event recognized the wide range of businesses that make our community strong, from farming, forestry and fishing to wood products and manufacturing, construction to childcare, hospitality and tourism, real estate, and our many other goods and service industries.

The community was given the opportunity to nominate and vote for local businesses for achievement recognition trophies and runner-up certificates of recognition.

In opening statements, Warden James Fuller remarked that all local businesses, large or small were the life blood of our communities and thanked everyone who attended to this recognition event.

Fore Sale: The Municipality is selling approximately 4200 square feet of rubber matting located at 164 Old Road Hill. The rubber matting is composed of full and partial 4’x6’ rubber mats.  Mats will be sold individually for $20/mat for a full 4’x6’ mat and $5 for all partial mats. HST is included in the price of the mats. This will be on a first come first serve basis. To qualify, purchasers must email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to solidify your priority of purchase. Successful purchaser will be contacted in the order of emails received. Please indicate within the email the best means of contact and how many mats you would like to purchase. Payment for the rubber mats can be made at the Municipal Office prior to pickup or at the time of pickup. Pickup can be arranged between Public Works and the purchaser. The removal of the mats will be the sole responsibility of the purchaser. Mats must be paid for and removed by Friday October 10th, 2025.

The Municipality of the District of St. Mary’s Municipal Office & Facilities will be closed on September 30th, 2025 in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
We will resume regular business hours Wednesday October 1st, 2025. Keep an eye out for the Mi'kmaw Grand Council flag flying in support of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Napu’saqnuk is the Mi’kmaw name for the St. Mary’s River / Estuary. For centuries, the Mi’kmaq used this waterway as a home, for travel, fishing, and community life. Today, it’s still central to our heritage.

Words carry meaning. Place‑names like Ecum Secum (“a red house”) and others around St. Mary’s reflect Mi’kmaw language, long used by the first peoples of this land.
