What is the Before and After Care Program?
The Before and After Care Program will take place in the time periods before school begins and after school is dismissed. The program will use an outdoor play, movement and physical literacy based framework to contribute to better health for children.
Who is responsible for the Before and After Care Program?
The program is being delivered by the Municipality of the District of St. Mary’s. The program is funded through the Province of Nova Scotia through the Departments of Education and Early Childhood Development and Communities, Culture and Heritage.
When will the Before and After Care Program start at St. Mary’s Education Centre Academy?
Monday, September 30th, 2019
Where will the Before and After Care Program take place?
St. Mary’s Education Centre Academy, using the Memorial Place entrance in the Kids First Room.
Who can participate in the Before and After Care Program?
The Before and After Care Program is focused on pre-primary students first. All additional spots can be filled by children in grades primary to six.
How many children can participant in this program?
There is a 24 participant cap on this program. Registration will be open, but days will be filled on a first come, first serve basis with preference given to pre-primary children first, their siblings up to grade 6 next and then any child grade primary to grade 6 last.
How much will the Before and After Care Program Cost per day?
$5 for the Before Care service and $15 for the After Care service.
Is there a discount for multiple children in the program?
Yes. For the before period, each additional child will be $3. In the after period, each additional child will be $10.
Is there financial assistance for this program?
Yes, the Before and After Care Program is eligible for a provincial subsidy through the Department of Education and Early Children Development.
How do I qualify for financial assistance?
Visit: https://www.ednet.ns.ca/earlyyears/families/childcaresubsidy.shtml or schedule a meeting with program manager, Kerri Penney to review details of the subsidy.
How do I pay for the Before and After Care Program?
Payments can be accepted as follows:
- Cash, Cheque on site.
- Debit at Municipal Building.
- Online payment can be arranged by contacting the Municipal Office.
Payments will be made on a bi-weekly basis at the beginning of a program period.
Does my child have to go to the Before and After Care program everyday?
No, they do not. But to ensure optimal use of this program, we ask that parents confirm their bi-weekly needs before a new program period (two week period) begins. If your schedule is unknown, we will accept one day notice to use the program. There are no drop-ins permitted at this program without one day notice. Unscheduled use is on a first come, first serve basis until all participant spots are filled.
Does the Before and After Care Program take place during Professional Development (PD) Days or Storm Days?
No, the Before and After Program only happens when school takes place.
